Three-night kayak camping trip in the heart of the San Juans. 

Route:
Day 1: Beginning at Washington Park on Friday and crossing Rosario Strait and into Thatcher Pass and continuing on to Spencer Spit Cascade Marine Trails campsite. (8-9 nm)
Day 2: Launch and paddle around the North end of Lopez Island the down Upright Channel to Turn Island State Park. (8-9 nm)
Day 3: Paddle back up Upright Channel to Odlin Park Cascade Marine Trails campsite. (4 nm)
Day 4: Return to Washington Park. (10 nm)

Total mileage: Approximately 32 nm
Trip pace: 
Moderate, but able to sustain 3 kts for crossings 
Skill level: SK III
Maximum number of paddlers: 4 + trip coordinators
Minimum number of paddlers: 2 + trip coordinators

Parking situation at Washington Park: There is overnight parking available with a fee.

Restrooms are available at Washington Park and pit toilets at campsites.


What is required: Usual HITW equipment including sea kayak (at least 16 feet) with bulkheads and deck lines, dry suit, PFD, etc. 

Food protection plan: Hungry raccoon population on Turn Island. Will need to hang food.

Water: Potable water at Spencer and Odlin

Trip expenses: Parking fee at Washington Park and camping fees at Spencer and Odlin

Challenging conditions: Crossing shipping lanes, n
avigate boat and/or ferry traffic, possible wavy conditions and currents


Note: If folks are interested, we could visit the county park on Shaw for lunch on the day we paddle to Odlin County Park. Also, although none of the days are particularly long, if we encounter significant winds, especially in Rosario Strait, endurance will be necessary.
